PM Kisan Yojana, or Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, is a government scheme launched by the Indian government to provide financial assistance to farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive direct income support of ₹6,000 per year, which is distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each.
The key objectives of PM Kisan Yojana are:
- Financial Support to Farmers: To provide income support to small and marginal farmers, helping them meet their basic agricultural needs.
- Improvement in Agricultural Productivity: The scheme aims to increase farmers’ financial capacity for better agricultural practices.
- Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The financial assistance is transferred directly to the farmers’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and quick disbursement.
To be eligible for PM Kisan Yojana, the farmer must be a small or marginal farmer, and the landholding should not exceed 2 hectares. The scheme covers all farmer families, except for those who are government employees or have high income sources.
This initiative was launched in December 2018 and is a part of the government’s efforts to boost the agricultural sector and improve the lives of farmers in India.
